New status proves value of long-term protection and international efforts.
The world's largest forest antelope has been caught on camera in Uganda for the first time. The elusive striped antelope, known as the lowland bongo, was snapped in dense forest near the border with the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Dr. Gladys Zikusooka Kalema — a very good friend and partner of Adventure Consults Uganda for over 12 years — was recently honored with a prestigious EarthCare Award from the Sierra Club in the United States.
USING MODERN TECHNOLOGY TO SAVE GIRAFFE AND THEIR HABITAT
In April 2018, the Giraffe Conservation Foundation (GCF) in partnership with the Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) undertook the largest ever GPS satellite tagging of giraffe in order tobetter understand their spatial movements and habitat use in the wild. Twenty-five (25) newly designed and tested solar powered GPS satellite units were fitted to giraffe in Kidepo Valley and Murchison Falls National Parks in northern Uganda.
