Day 2. Lion Research (can take up to 5 hours).
Early start (around 615am), grab some coffee, hop into one of Adventure Consults’ jeeps at the crack of dawn and hit the road in search of lions. Your guides on this bespoke adventure are members of a local predator research team that has been doing research into the carnivores in the park for over 10 years.
You will become a researcher for a day, as you learn to use telemetry to find the different lion prides who roam the savannah of Queen Elizabeth. We can confidently state there is no better way to find and photograph lions in all of Uganda. Given the fact that one lion in each pride is collared as part of the research project, you can expect to see multiple prides during this half-day trip. Due to the off-road nature of the adventure — all other vehicles must stay on the allocated game routes and are not allowed off-road — close encounters with other wildlife are also assured.

During the drive, the guides and researchers will discuss human-animal conflict in communities around the park, veterinary issues within the park, and lion family dynamics as part of a very in-depth game drive.

Return to the lodge in time for lunch. After lunch, have an afternoon siesta then venture on a game drive in search for big game. Meals and Overnight at the Lodge

Together with Dr Gladys or one of her contemporaries, you will have a day in the life of a Gorilla field researcher. Analyze the Gorilla dung collected from the nests of the previous day’s track to establish the health of the family. The dung analysis is a big part of the work done by the researchers to establish gorilla health of the family. Visit the frontline communities that directly come in contact with the gorilla families, the gorillas not only eat what is in their gardens but also come into contact with human diseases that can be transmitted to the families. The only long-term and sustainable method to improve the gorillas’ health is by improving the health of the people living around the park, and not just the people, but their livestock as well.
